Non-ionizing Radiation
Based on the obtained accreditation in June 2015 for testing laboratories with the scope for testing of the level of human exposure to electric fields of low and high frequency (non-ionizing radiation – Radio/TV transmitters, base stations for mobile telephony, wireless communication networks, radars), Kvalitet a.d. Niš was on October 1st 2015 received authorization from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection based on the “Law on Protection against Ionizing Radiation” (“Off. Gazette of RS”, 36/2009) for performing the following tasks:
- Testing
of levels of radiation sources of non-ionizing radiation of particular interest in the environment for high-frequency area; - Systematic examination of the level of non-ionizing radiation in the environment for high-frequency area.
On behalf of the Provincial Secretariat for Urban Planning and Environmental Protection of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, we have a Decision to perform the following tasks:
We carry out tests on request:
- operators of public communications networks for
- mobile telephony
- broadcasting, and the like
- operators of so called functional radio stations
- taxi associations
- business systems and the like
- local governments
- citizens
Accreditation
Kvalitet a.d. Niš is accredited for broadband and frequency-selective testing of the electric field intensity in the range of 27 MHz to 6 GHz for:
- Radio and TV receivers (AM, FM, DAB, DVB-T)
- Base stations for mobile telephony (GSM, UMTS, CDMA, W-CDMA, LTE)
- Networks wireless communications (Wi-Fi, WLAN, WIMAX)
Additional explanations
All devices, equipment or objects that in their work create an electromagnetic field are the sources of non-ionizing radiation.
Non-ionizing radiation can be:
- low frequency (LF) in the range up to 10 kHz- comes from the electric power systems (substations, power lines or so), electromotor drives, etc;
- high-frequency (HF) in the range of 10 kHz to 300 GHz – comes from the radio/TV transmitters, base stations for mobile telephony (GS, UMTS, LTE), systems for wireless data transmission (Wi-Fi, CDMA), radars, radio communication apparatus (police, army, taxi, …) and all the other systems that use radio frequency spectrum.
Non-ionizing radiation does not pose as a threat to the environment if its level is within the prescribed basic limitations based directly on established health effects and biological indicators. These restrictions are in Serbia precisely regulated by the Law on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (RS Official Gazette no. 36/2009) and a series of Rulebooks.
Interested parties, individuals or legal entities (civic groups, tenants’ assemblies, institutions, operators, local authorities…) may apply the request for testing of the sources of non-ionizing radiation.
On the basis of accreditation and authorization from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, Kvalitet a.d. Niš performs testing of levels of non-ionizing radiation, process measured values and issue appropriate documentation about the impact on the environment.
